Tamara Herman is a community organizer, researcher, filmmaker and independent journalist who has been active in community work related to poverty and resource extraction for fifteen years. Tamara’s interest in Canadian mining was sparked with an undergraduate research contract in the late 1990s, and she has since spent time working with communities living beside mines in India, Mexico, and several African countries. Since taking the MediaNet Ecodocs Documentary program in 2010, Tamara has made numerous short films on poverty and environmental issues. She balances her work as a filmmaker with anti-poverty community organizing in Vancouver, Coast Salish Territories.
